A Closet Treehouse

A Closet Treehouse
Look what we built in the girls' closet!  It is an indoor treehouse.  The kids have been having a wonderful time with this new space.  Well, except for Little Bee who can only stand at the bottom and wish she were part of the action for now.  We originally thought that it might be a nice place for kids to get away when they wanted to be alone (there is not a ton of alone space in our house, especially not when it is filled with three or four kids), but it has become more of a communal play space, which is nice, too.  I've heard lots of talk of Rapunzel in her tower, Peter Pan in Never Land, and Winnie the Pooh in his Honey Tree.  When combined with the dress up corner, it sparks some pretty awesome imaginative play.

The baby dolls live in the "nursery" on the bottom floor.  Flower keeps dragging her little rocking chair in there so that she can put her babies down for their naps.  Incidently, this activity occurs most often when she, herself, is supposed to be going down for nap...stinker.

We decided to consolidate all the kids' clothes into one "family closet", which left us with some space to play with.  When we were doing our room renovations, we decided this would be an awesome addition to our home.  We built it VERY strong- it is a wood frame with a center beam, all screwed into the studs.  It has plywood on top and a very strong railing.  This baby isn't going anywhere!  It is tall enough inside for the kids to stand upright.  I added a few little touches- curtains and a nice foam cushion to make it comfy.  It kind of makes me wish I were still tiny enough to stand up in there!

  4. So fun! I'm wondering if the closet in my baby's future room is big enough for something like this....it's a small walk-in closet, and I'm already scheming ways to make something exciting out of it, though he's only 2 months right now.

  11. This is absolutely wonderful - perfect for my daughter. I pinned this idea in hope that hubby will see it. We are currently building our house. My daughter set up a Elmo couch in the closet to read her books. She would be jumping for joy if he built this in her closet. Thank you for sharing.
